What Roderick Does for Law Firms Law firm leaders often need an external sounding board to support them through the well-known inflection points of growth - creating the strategies, systems and confidence to succeed.
I provide that input based on a methodology derived from funds management, using an investor perspective to guide firms towards defining and achieving their goals.
How Does it work?

Although no two law firms are the same, statistics tells us all businesses go through recognised periods where they grow quickly, and other times where that grow plateaus or even reverses.
I work as a coach/consultant, often with an experienced expert team, to understand the human and strategic issues that are blocking progress. The solutions are delivered as a project or programme, normally engaging the broader management team and staff to support the key executives in the delivery of the cultural and commercial outcomes sought.
What do Firms Get? I marry knowledge of the maths of business with a clear understanding of the human dynamics at play in business.

Typically, that knowledge is applied to:
• identify and address gaps in the skills or capability of executive management teams to enable them to drive strategic change.
• prepare growing businesses for transformational funding - growth capital, change of ownership, succession, exit
• improve productivity, profitability and team engagement....fast.

To demonstrate value, law firms need a narrative that demonstrates their clear grip of the maths of the business (revenue model, team sizes and rate of build, capability levels) married to a well-articulated brand built on shared values.

Who needs to be involved?

Moments of transformational change are often a trigger to create room for the next generation of leaders to step up. Working initially with the CEO/Managing Partner and key executives, my approach harnesses the talents and energy of the next layer, unleashing their creativity and skills. That work trains in new skills and processes and enables the whole team to become mobilised in moving the firm forwards.
Which firms will benefit? I get best results for firms with 20 to 200 employees (c.£2m to £20m revenue) facing tough choices or demanding a step change in how they operate.
Where the principals need the firm to shift gears, the management team to step up, to find a different path to growth.
Where a vision needs agreed or renewed, potentially sparking a transaction leading to a change of ownership and energy in the firm.
Where energy in the firm is being dissipated in arguments over resourcing and margins, rather than being applied to building better outcomes for clients, staff and equity holders.
Additional information:
Bill Gates said, "Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in ten years." Urgent results can be achieved within weeks, but sustainable change based on new behaviours takes time and commitment.

Biography
I bring a unique blend of skills to the role of supporting the leaders of professional services firms.
First of all, I am legally trained and understand the culture and practice of law. My time in financial communications allowed me to understand how to drive building a profitable consulting practice and how to deliver critical advice to clients in their most difficult and exposed moments. As a business growth adviser, trained in a methodology derived from fund management to drive intangible asset growth into SMEs, I have learned the mathematics of business - from team sizes, efficiency ratios to the number of touchpoints required to create client loyalty.
I am ready to put that experience and knowledge to work supporting the leadership of law firms to deliver an environment where lawyers can do their best work, where the enabling support staff are enthused and motivated to ensure that clients are treated well and in which necessarily limited resources are applied in the right proportions to derive maximum, sustainable, profitability.
